West Neighborhood Planning Advisory Committee

Charge

The West Neighborhood PAC will make recommendations to the Vice Chancellor – Administration and to the Chancellor regarding land use, programming, and funding that will be needed to further develop the campus West Neighborhood. The campus Long Range Development Plan designates the campus West Neighborhood for student housing (and dining); campus support; parking; and athletics/recreation/open space. This mainly undergraduate neighborhood is located at the western edge of the campus. It is the primarily location for student housing, dining and recreational facilities on campus. It orients across the Fairfield Canal from the Kolligian Library and extends in a westerly direction toward Lake Road. This neighborhood also includes land used for parking and campus support facilities. There are areas of the West Neighborhood that form a natural swale between campus canals and including Little Lake. The West Neighborhood is conveniently located near Lake Yosemite Park and the current main entrance to the campus.

The West Neighborhood PAC is charged to:

• Identify and resolve the major planning issues of the district within the context of the Long Range Development Plan (including parking);

• Identify future facilities and building occupants appropriate to the district;

• Examine funding options and make recommendations regarding fund sources; and

• Recommend timing of such projects.

Members of the PAC will work with staff from Capital Planning and Physical Planning, Design & Construction to successfully complete it work. The PAC may need to coordinate with other offices such as: Housing, Admissions; Transportation and Parking Services; and Information Technology to complete its work. An important component of the University’s physical planning entails incorporating environmentally sustainable features, including a special focus on the conservation of natural resources. This will be part of consideration for future development in the area.
