Message from Vice Chancellor Reese: Application Period Open for New Staff Mentoring Program

May 13, 2014

As you may have heard, UC Merced is launching a new volunteer career development program for staff members interested in mentoring.

The Career Advancement Mentorship Program (CAMP) is an annual initiative that will match experienced employees with staff members who seek mentoring and professional development. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Human Resources and the UC Merced Staff Assembly.

CAMP will provide opportunities for mentors to share their knowledge and experiences with mentees. The goal of the program is to help mentees excel in their chosen field and develop future leaders at UC Merced. Mentors and mentees are matched based on their interests and experiences, and the program’s structure will provide participants with assistance with goal setting, job satisfaction, job enhancement and direction regarding upward mobility through bi-monthly workshops and group and individual mentorship activities.

The 2014-2015 CAMP pilot will run July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015, and applications are currently being accepted for both mentees and mentors. I encourage staff members who have aspirations to succeed and grow professionally at UC Merced to become a mentee.  I also encourage experienced managers and professionals to consider being a mentor. Detailed information about the program and application process is available on the CAMP webpage.

The deadline to apply as a mentor or mentee is May 16. Applications received after that date will be considered for the next program cycle.

Mentoring is an effective way for experienced employees to share their knowledge and provides an excellent opportunity to develop talented staff members who are already a part of UC Merced’s workforce. For more information about this program, please visit the CAMP website or contact Yazil Navarro in Human Resources at ext. 4477.

Best regards,

Michael Reese
Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Business Services
