Sustainability Advisory Committee
Purpose
The purpose of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (Committee) is to promote environmental management and sustainable development at UC Merced.
Definition of Sustainability
Sustainability refers to the physical development and institutional operating practices that meet the needs of present users without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, particularly with regard to use and conservation of natural resources.
Goals and Responsibilities
The Committee is charged with advising the Chancellor on matters pertaining to environmental sustainability goals, policies and practices at the University of California, Merced.
The mission of the Committee shall be composed of six central goals:
• To engage the campus in an ongoing dialogue of environmental sustainability;
• To integrate environmental sustainability with existing campus programs in education, research,
operations, and public service;
• To instill a culture of sustainable long-range planning and forward-thinking design.
• To inform and advise campus construction design guidelines and standards on all new buildings which seek to achieve silver ratings.
• To inform and advise operational practices as to maintain LEED – EB (Existing Buildings) for all buildings that have been LEED certified.
• To inform on the implementation of the sustainability requirements set forth in the UC Merced Long Range Development Plan
