University of California Sustainability Policies and Best Practices

The University of California is committed to minimizing the University’s impact on the environment and reducing the University’s dependence on non-renewable energy. At the September 2005 meeting, The Regents authorized the President to incorporate sustainable transportation practices into the existing Policy on Green Building Design and Clean Energy Standards.

The University has developed a Policy on Green Building Design, Clean Energy Standards, and Sustainable Transportation Practices. The addition of environmentally-sound transportation goals complements the policy and other University academic and administrative programs that support the development and implementation of evolving best practices on sustainability.  In March of 2007, this Policy was expanded to include areas such as building renovations, climate protection practices, sustainable operations, recycling and waste management, and environmentally preferred procurement.

The University has developed Guidelines for implementation of this policy. These Guidelines were developed by the office of the Senior Vice President-Business and Finance following appropriated review and coordination at the UC Office of the President.
