Green Buildings and LEED

The UC Merced Campus is located in the San Joaquin Valley in the middle of California. This new campus is 910 acres total with each new construction project pursuing LEED Silver Certification. These Web pages describe a series of LEED Buildings using LEED criteria for certification.

Classroom and Office Building, LEED Gold Certified - Link to LEED Scorecard

The Classroom and Office building was awarded LEED Gold Certification in March of 2008 with a total of 44 points.

Central Plant, LEED Gold Certified - Link to LEED Scorecard

Central Plant was awarded LEED Gold Certification in March of 2007, with a total of 39 points.

Central Plant is a two story building with a single story telecom building. All office and support spaces in the buildings are occupied 24 hours a day, seven days a week with reduced occupancy on the weekends. The main Central Plant building houses the equipment for the entire campus as well as its facilities and staff. The majority of the plan area is mechanical and electrical equipment space for chillers, boilers, pump, switchgear & the million gallon thermal energy storage tank (TES), seen below, which stores chilled water for distribution to all the campus buildings for cooling. The Telecom Building houses the campus communications equipment and an office for the staff.

Library and Information Technology Building, LEED Gold Certified - Link to LEED Scorecard

The Kolligian Library was awarded LEED Gold certification in December of 2007 with a total of 46 points.

The Library and Technology building includes a three-story wing (West Wing), and highly glazed four-story central connector (Lantern), and an East Wing. All office spaces in the building are occupied from 8 am to 5 pm with reduced occupancy during the weekends.

Sierra Terraces Link to LEED Scorecard

The Sierra Terraces student housing was submitted to the USGBC in October of 2008. This project was awarded 40 points which earned a LEED gold certification April 2009.

Valley Terraces (aka Garden Suites & Lake View Dining), LEED Silver Certified - Link to LEED Scorecard

The Valley Terraces construction was awarded LEED silver certification in July of 2007 with a total of 35 points. This project is the UC Merced Garden Suites and Lakeview Dining Facility. Consisting of three types of spaces; student housing, commons and dining. The housing buildings are 2-stories, totaling approximately 22,700 square feet. The commons building is 1-story of approximately 18,200 square feet. The dining building is 1-story and is approximately 14,800 square feet.

Joseph Gallo Recreations & Wellness Center - Link to LEED Scorecard

The Joseph Gallo Recreation and Wellness Center was submitted to the USGBC in October of 2008. This project was awarded 44 points, which earned a LEED Gold certification April of 2009.
