Physical Planning, Design and Construction
The Physical Planning, Design and Construction Office is organized to professionally manage the design and construction of new or remodeled campus facilities that support and enhance the university's mission of education, research and public service. It establishes design standards and long-range physical development plans for the campus and leads campus efforts with respect to environmental affairs and sustainability.
In Fall 2005, campus planners began the process of revising the Long-Range Development Plan in response to federal permitting requirements that would allow the continued development of the campus. The University of California, Merced, Long-Range Development Plan is a comprehensive physical development document and land-use plan that will serve as a guide for future growth of the new Merced campus.
Visit the Long-Range Development Plan Web site for the latest concept maps, workshop summaries and other important information being used to guide the development of the plan.
The Office advocates excellence in design, promotes sustainable and environmentally friendly development, and energy consciousness. Staff architects and construction management professionals manage major capital improvement projects including oversight of schematic design, design development, contract administration, and construction and inspection services, and environmental permitting.
